UNICEF Myanmar is pleased to announce the national launch of UNICEF’s global annual flagship publication the State of the World’s Children 2013 Report this week in the Aung San Stadium.
The national launch will open with a sporting event participated by children, including those with disabilities. The second part will be the launching of the report by children who share their experience of living with disabilities in Myanmar. They will speak alongside senior government officials, diplomats and advocates actively involved in their work for children with disabilities.
The Myanmar national launch follows the global launch of the report by UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake on 30 May in Vietnam.
The State of the World’s Children every year offers reliable data on the situation of children in the countries and regions of the world and focuses on a theme important for children. This year’s theme is children with disabilities, and on their right to access social services equitably with all other children. It reminds us of the importance of inclusion.
The report comes at a timely moment for Myanmar, when the reform processes led by the Government for better lives children and families. Timely discourse and decisions on children with disability can lead to policies and provisions that meet their needs and support their families and caregivers.
With this report, UNICEF hopes to add a strong voice and increased visibility to the global, necessary and increasingly urgent debate about disability rights, especially those of children.
