Child-focused Township Profiles launched in Magway and Kayah

More than 200 township, district and state/region officials from a range of social sectors participated in two inception workshops in Magway and Loikaw on 20th and 26th May 2016, respectively.

First National Adolescents Conference - “I feel I became a better person”

Nay Pyi Taw, 19 May 2016- Ma Kai Ja was at school when fighting broke out in her village, in Kachin State. She was evacuated to a hostel used as a shelter. She was 16 years and she stayed there alone for two months, far away from her parents.

They Really Did it!

During my meeting trip with Karen Education Department (KED) in Myawaddy, I observed Myawaddy and Kawkareik Township Kindergarten (KG) trainings led by the Ministry of Education (MoE). Preparatory work on the materials for this training was funded by the Quality Basic Education Programme (QBEP) which aims to support the Government of Myanmar to improve access to quality school readiness and primary level education for all children.  This preparatory work was then taken a step further by the MoE.

When it comes to Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), we already know that early interventions positively impact young children’s transition to primary level.  Evidence on enrolment and retention is compelling, but think of the positive implications of the ECCD-community-school linkage:  Strong linkages from ECCD to school and community can also yield multiple benefits.
